BLOG: Un-related thoughts and activites of the day . . . .

Some family ziplining. It was fun but I don't need to do it again.

Mom & Steve came with us for a fun adventure in Costa Rica. Then we were off on our own again.
Old posts from my very first travel website and my first backpacking trip (a year in 2000-2001)!

Costa Rica is so incredibly beautiful. Mom and Steve H. came with us from our brief stop in the states and we all hung out on the beach for a week in Samara and had a great time.
We did some good lounging on the beach. Even went boogie boarding on Steve's birthday.

Um, somehow we all ended up with mayonnaise in our hair.

How cute are my mom and her husband? Love them.

Then Steve ran with the bulls in a bull ring and took surfing lessons. Both were successful.
Not sure how we ended up here. I almost think it was more dangerous in the stands they were so overcrowded!

It took some doing since everything was so expensive in Tamarindo, but we found this place on the beach for $20 US.

When in Rome ... Steve took surfing lessons in Tamarindo. I took my turn on the board and got up, but then fell and the board knocked me in the head. :(

Then off to the rain forest. We went to MonteVerde intending to stay for a few days and ended up staying a week and a half. The cloud forest is so lush, the wildlife is great (we love the leaf cutter ants), and there is so much to do here.
Pension St. Elena in Monte Verde. I spent a lot of time in that hammock reading the Chronicals of Narnia that I found at the local book trade!

We cooked so much pasta at the ranger station and had to find whatever we could to store it in to take back on our hike. LOL It was stuffed in a water bottle and the pasta bag.

I am so fascinated by leaf cutter ants.

This is a strangler fig that killed the tree it wrapped around, leaving a hollow center. You can climb up inside it all the way to the top of the canopy! Look, that's Steve in the tree!

What a pretty giant flower from the ginger plant.

What a wonderful country. The whole country is preserved. You can´t even cut down a tree on your own property without getting permission from the govt. Then we went to Volcan Arenal and actually saw red lava rocks rolling down the face of the volcano! Also went to a beautiful waterfall but those colorful little frogs are still eluding us.
Arenal Volacno. It's rare to see the top because it's almost always covered in clouds.

Now we´re off to Nicaragua for some Spanish lessons (hopefully) and some more adventures. Leslie´s high school Spanish has been getting us by barely, and Steve is already learning how to habla español like a local. It´s very civilized here, so we´re almost looking forward to more of a third world country.
