Bali Visa / Entry Requirements - How to Skip the Line!

Technology is always advancing. Not always for the better, but in this case it makes entering Indonesia a breeze! As long as you have completed your documentation ahead of time (which BTW is not exactly a breeze), skip the normal immigration line and use the automated immigration gates (known as "Autogates").

General Tips for a Smooth Process

First of all, yes, Bali is in Indonesia. LOL Some people think it's its own country and I can sort of understand why. So when entering anywhere in Indonesia (including Bai), you must adhere to the visa and entry requirements.

1. Of course check the visa requirements for your particular country of residence.
2. Make sure you only use official government sites to submit your forms! There are so many third-party imposters that will charge you extra money for what should be a DIY process. This can be a costly mistake.
3. Forms must/can be submitted within 3 days (72 hours) prior to arrival. No sooner.
4. I won't lie, filling in these forms is a pain in the a$$ and takes a long time! Do not wait until you are at the arrival airport to do this. Follow my tips to ease some of the pain!
5. You do not need to go into the regular immigration line! Use the automated kiosks. It's not labeled which one you are supposed to use, so as long as you're eligible, choose the fast route. ;)

Who is Eligible?

• You must be 6 years of age or older and be tall enough for the facial recognition camera. This has supposedly been officially changed from 14 which it still says on the approval email. (Sorry, families with kids need to use the manual immigration line.)
• You must hold a biometric electronic passport (e-passport)
• Foreign nationals must complete a Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA), or hold a resident permit like an ITAS/ITAP. Nationals from ASEAN countries traveling under visa-exempt status must register online first.
• You must complete an All Indonesia Arrival Card declaration.
• Notice that the Bali Levy is not part of this list. This is a separate requirement of Bali so is not part of standard Indonesia entry.

Indonesia Entry Requirement Forms Official Links

eVOA

• 500,000 IDR (approximately $30 USD) fee.
• Required by: check your visa requirements. Residents with an ITAS/ITAP and nationals from ASEAN countries will have a different requirement.
• Do this form first as you will enter your eVOA number on the arrival card form.
• You will be required to upload a photo of your passport and a selfie similar to a passport photo. Make sure there is no glare on your passport photo and that you can read all of the numbers on the information page.
• For your hotel address, it does not accept all addresses such as our Airbnb. Once you enter the postal code, it should auto-fill the city, province, etc. fields. If it does not, use a different hotel address; something a little more mainstream. I used our one-night hotel address in Kuta and it accepted that.
• After you initially submit your completed form, this is not really an indication that you still need to pay before it's processed! Your email says your visa application has been received by the system, and there's a link to continue with it. Also, in the .
• It is accepted pretty much immediately. You will get an email as such but you DO NOT need to show that upon entry.
• Even though this is a 30-day visa, is is a single-entry visa and is not good for reentry! I went to a Malaysia for a week and returned to Indonesia and had to pay the eVOA and do all my forms again.

All Indonesia Arrival Card

• No fee.
• Required by: everyone.
• Select you language at the top of the page, then "Indonesian Citizen" or "Foreign Visitor". Yep, locals need to fill this out, too.
• You DO need to show this QR code as you are exiting the customs desk. If you do it as a group, only one person needs to show the one QR code for your group.
• Filling this out as a group makes it only slightly easier. More information to fill out, including your eVOA number.
• If you start this form, then go away from it for some time to fill out your eVOA, you will lose all your data and have to start over.

Bali Tourist Levy

As of 2024, there is an additional tax/fee when entering Bali from outside the country. Thankfully, this form is easy!

• 150,000 IDR (approximately $8.50 USD) fee.
• Required by: foreign visitors from overseas. Residents with an ITAS/ITAP, Indonesian citizens (WNI), flight/boat crew, etc. do not have to pay.
• You DO NOT need to physically show any proof of having paid this, but sometimes random QR code checks are done.
• This is a per-arrival fee and needs to be paid every time you enter Bali from outside the country.
• Required for each and all foreign nationals regardless of age.
• Funds go toward preserving local culture, improving public facilities, and protecting Bali's environment. So although you may be able to get by without paying it (as it is not part of your automated entry process), you really SHOULD pay it.

Using the Autogates / Kiosks

• There are many Autogates. Just walk up and use which ever one you want.
• You scan your passport, wait for the gate to open, have your facial recognition done, wait for the gate to open, done!
• For the facial recognition, it sometimes fails if there is anything near your face like headphone or even a luggage strap.
• Sometimes the kiosks are a little glitchy. If it keeps turning red and does not accept your passport, try a different kiosk.

The Directorate General of Immigration is continuously expanding its network of over 300 automated border gates across the country. Here are a few of the major airports that are up and running.
